1 Airpoints Dollar - 1 New Zealand Dollar (NZD)

For our Australian members, we're changing the value of 1 Airpoints Dollar to have a value equivalent to 1 New Zealand Dollar (NZD) everywhere in the world.

Airpoints Flexipay

We've had to temporarily remove Airpoints Flexipay when booking travel via airnewzealand.com.au. We are working towards having this back by the end of the year.

How will I access my Airpoints account?

Once we make the change, you'll be able to access your Airpoints account as normal by logging in on the Air New Zealand website.

Will I still be able to view my Airpoints activity in the Air NZ app?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you'll still be able to view your Airpoints activity in the Air NZ app. Select the link underneath your balance on the Airpoints tab to see your latest Airpoints Dollars and Status Point activity.

Can I still sign up to the Airpoints programme with a temporary card?

We have replaced our temporary cards with a fast join sign up process online. Simply scan the QR code in places you would normally find temporary cards and sign up to earn Airpoints Dollars.

Question 7

I am an Airpoints Elite, Gold or Silver member, how will my tier be affected?

Accepted Answer

As an Elite, Gold or Silver member you may know that you have both a tier review date and a separate end of membership year date.

Today, we review your membership to see if you have earned enough Status Points in the last 12 months to retain your tier status. Then, there is a delay of up to 6 weeks until your new membership year begins and your new benefits are available to use.

For example, an Airpoints member with a tier review date of 16 January:

If they retained their status, their refreshed benefits would not be available for use until 1 March

To improve this experience and simplify the programme we are combining the dates, so you only have one date to remember (now known as your tier end date). This means that if you retain your tier, you will begin your new membership year and receive your benefits immediately rather than waiting.

Upgrades can happen at any time and your new tier end date will be the last day of the calendar month you were upgraded in. For example, if you are upgraded on 16 January, your tier end will be 31 January, the following year.

We'll confirm your tier end date when we make the change in the next few weeks, but to keep things really simple it will be the last day of a calendar month.

What will my new tier end date be?

We are removing tier review dates and will review your account on your tier end date at end of the month. Your tier end date will be as follows:

If your previous tier review date fell on the 1st-16th of a month, your tier end date will move to the end of that same calendar month. For example, a 3 April tier review date will become 30 April.
If your previous tier review date fell on the 17th-31st of the month, your tier end date will move to the end of the following calendar month. For example, a 28 February review date becomes 31 March.

You won't need to earn anymore Status Points to retain or upgrade your Tier Status during this extended period, but you'll have extra time to earn them.
If you earn enough to upgrade within the extra time, you'll be upgraded straight away.

Question 9

What happens to my benefits on my tier end date?

You'll be able to enjoy your new benefits immediately after your tier end date. The benefits from your previously held tier will be expired.

Question 10

What will happen to my Status Hold Parental benefit?

Accepted Answer

Your Status Hold Parental will also end on the last day of a calendar month. After this date you'll need to start earning enough Status Points to retain your tier status.

Will my Elite Partner membership be changing?

Accepted Answer

No, Elite Partner memberships will still end on the same day as the Elite member's tier end date.

Will the value of my Airpoints Dollar balance change?

If you are an Australian member with an Airpoints balance when we make this change, we will adjust it for you to have a value equivalent to New Zealand Dollars.

Will my Airpoints Dollars balance fluctuate based on the exchange rate?

Accepted Answer

After we’ve adjusted your Airpoints Dollars balance to reflect the change, what you see is what you can spend. When you want to spend your Airpoints Dollars, these will be a value equivalent to New Zealand Dollars and a conversion rate will apply at the time of the redemption.

Why are you changing the value of Australian Airpoints Dollars?

Having Airpoints Dollars with a value equivalent to New Zealand Dollars worldwide will enable us to deliver programme improvements to all members in the future, regardless of where you live.

Will this affect how I earn Airpoints Dollars?

Accepted Answer

Any Airpoints Dollars you earn after this change will automatically be of a value equivalent to New Zealand Dollars. So, your Airpoints Dollars balance will accurately reflect the amount of Airpoints Dollars you can spend at any given time.

I have an Australian credit or charge card, what happens when I convert card rewards points?

If you have an eligible Australian credit or charge card, we will be changing the way Airpoints Dollars are converted from Australian card partners to your Airpoints account.

Any Airpoints Dollars you request to convert on the websites of our Australian card partners are currently stated as being equivalent to Australian Dollars. When we make these changes, Airpoints Dollars will show in your Airpoints account as having a value equal to a New Zealand Dollar.

The converted amount for every 1 Airpoints Dollars (equivalent to Australian Dollars) requested on Australian card partners' website is 1.09 Airpoints Dollars (equivalent to New Zealand Dollars).

The conversion rate being applied during the conversion to Airpoints Dollars applies to any amount of Airpoints Dollars you request. Air New Zealand sets the conversion rate outlined above and this conversion rate may change at any time. Any future changes to the conversion rate will be published on the airnewzealand.com.au website.

Question 17

What happens when I want to spend my Airpoints Dollars after this change?

If you’re paying in full with Airpoints Dollars, the amount will automatically be calculated for you. Your remainder to pay will be any cost not eligible for payment with Airpoints Dollars, such as taxes.

Can I still use Flexipay to purchase flights?

Accepted Answer

As part of the change, Flexipay will temporarily be unavailable when booking flights with Air New Zealand from airnewzealand.com.au. We hope to have this back up and running by the end of the year.

Will this mean I can shop at the Airpoints Store?

Accepted Answer

Not at this time. The Airpoints Store is currently unavailable for Australian-based Airpoints members.
